Fitness Standards and Training
Physically arduous occupations require normally require a minimum level of fitness, e.g. divers, pilots, offshore workers, etc. A way of ensuring a minimum fitness level is to utilise a fitness standard.
The use of standards, or guidelines provides motivation to employees, and helps employers ensure that their employees maintain a minimum level of fitness to reduce the risk of fatigue and injury.
Rehabilitation vs. Prehabilitation
- Rehabilitation is a reactive activity following an injury that can take up a lot of an employees time.
- Prehabilitation training (increasing ‘specific’ strength and fitness capabilities) is designed help to reduce both the risk of injury and potentially the speed of any rehabilitation.
